Brixhibition Announced

The TAZ-Brick Collectors Club are happy to announce that a new name for the annual event has been chosen being Brixhibition.
Brixhibition 2012 is set to be bigger than ever with the dates set as a three day event which starts on Friday the 16th and runs throughout the weekend of the 17th and 18th of September.
The venue is bigger too with the Lions Club of Glenorchy (City) working hard to ensure that the Moonah Arts Centre could proudly host the very popular event.

In a bid to attract the younger community of LEGO enthusiasts to display at Brixhibition 2012 it has been decided that the Friday the 14th of September time slot of 10.00am to 5.00pm will be specifically catering for boy and girls as after all the event is aimed at attracting kids to come along and see what can be built and created from the famous bricks from this part of Australia and the world !!!

A new look

If you’ve visited LEGO BrickFORCE recently you may have noticed the change of logo and site design. This is because I received a message from the LEGO Group telling me that it was illegal to have the LEGO logo in my site logo, because it is a trademark of the LEGO Group and portrayed my site as an official TLG -run website (which it isn’t).I also changed the theme so it fitted better in with the new logo. Please let me know what you think of the new design in the comment section below!

Brickvention 2012

A couple of weeks ago on the 21st & 22nd January the 2012 Brickvention was held in the Melbourne Town Hall. As well as the LEGO models on display, there was a LEGO shop where you could buy LEGO sets to bring home and a pile of LEGO bricks so you could build your own models. Roaming around was a group of Star Wars characters that could have only been from the 501st Legion.

This year you could buy one of only 150 exclusive Brickvention 2012 sets. The model of Melbourne’s historical trams sold for $200 AUD.

This Friday (20^th January) I will be flying over to Melbourne for the 2012 Brickvention – Australia’s premier LEGO fan convention.

Brickvention is an Australian based convention for LEGO fans. It is a two-day event that brings together LEGO fans of all ages from all over Australia to view original and unusual creations built by Australian modelers and collectors. So if you love LEGO, come along and view the amazing creations and models made out of LEGO.

About Rebrick:

Share your favorite creations with the LEGO® brick and inspire other people.
All you have to do to get started is to find an image, video, blog post, article or whatever format your favorite piece of content is on the world wide web and submit the link to ReBrick.

WHAT IS THE BASIC IDEA WITH REBRICK?
ReBrick is a social media platform where adult users can share and discuss user-created LEGO content online.
It will not be possible to upload content to the site. Instead the basic functionality is for the user to bookmark content from other sites, such as Flickr, Youtube, MOCpages and similar sites, and have a discussion at the ReBrick hub.
ReBrick is a public stage for fans of the LEGO brick to share their wonderful models and creations with the general public.
IS REBRICK PART OF LEGO.COM?
The ReBrick website is made and facilitated by the LEGO Group. But ReBrick is not part of LEGO.com. While LEGO.com is for children (of all ages), ReBrick caters to fans over 13. There’s no commercial agenda. The site will never be used to market LEGO products so you won’t see campaigns, adverts or advertorials.

IT’S YOUR REBRICK!
The ReBrick project is a collaboration between the LEGO Group and the LEGO community. In fact, we could almost say it’s co-owned. I just received the Summer edition of the LEGO Club Magazine (Australian edition). In each edition there are reviews from lucky people who got a free set from LEGO as part of their ‘Member Reviews’ program. Well, guess what? YOU too can become a LEGO Club reviewer. Email your name, membership number, age and address to LEGOClub_AU@LEGO.com (please insert “I want to be a March LEGO Club Reviewer” in the subject line) and you could be selected to review a LEGO product for the March 2012 issue of LEGO Club Magazine. LEGO Universe will be closed in 2012

Remember that post about LEGO Universe closing? Well, I just received an email newsletter from the folks at LEGO that provides a bit of extra detail:

Hello Adventurer, today we are very sad to announce that LEGO® Universe will be closing on January 31, 2012. This was a very difficult decision to make, but unfortunately LEGO Universe has not been able to attract the number of members needed to keep the game open.

We realize how sad this will make the many players who have enjoyed LEGO Universe and we are committed to providing open communication with both kids and parents as we transition through this difficult time. We understand this is a challenging change and apologize for not being able to give parents forewarning before the general announcement.

We are thankful to have had the opportunity to share this adventure with an amazing community of players. We hope you will continue to enjoy LEGO Universe for the last few months. As a thank you, if you are a paying subscriber on December 31, 2011, we will provide you the full game for the final month for free.

Again, we want to thank the fantastic community of players who made LEGO Universe such a vibrant, fun and creative experience.

The Details:

The game will be turned off on January 31, 2012 at midnight (EST).
All current subscribers (1, 6 or 12 month plans) who still have active subscriptions on December 31 will receive a refund for any remaining game time remaining after December 31 as well as free play from January 1, 2012 until January 31.

For example, if you purchased a 6-month subscription on September 1, 2011 (which would expire on February 29, 2012), you would be refunded $16.66 for the 2 months following December 31.

We will begin processing all refunds on February 1, 2012. All refunds will be made to the credit card used for the original subscription.
If your subscription expires before December 31 you will need to purchase an additional 1 month subscription by December 31 in order to get the free game play in January (again, any unused game time as of December 31 will be refunded.)
LEGO Universe game cards can only be used until December 1st 2011. Unused game cards after December 1st can be converted to LEGO Shop @Home gift cards for the same value.

Please note: Details on how to convert unused game cards will be posted on December 1.

You can continue to enjoy the free to play zone until January 31, 2012 but your last chance to convert to a paying subscription is December 31, 2011.

I myself have never really played LEGO Universe that much, but the Free-To-Play version was really good. I’m really sorry to see it go.

Public beta for LEGO Q&A site!

The new LEGO Stack Exchange site is now open to the public!

After just 7 days in private beta, we’ve already got 175 users who have asked 120 questions and written 260 answers. We’re off to a good start, and it’s time to unleash this baby on the public and see if it flies. (Sorry; mixed metaphor.)
